March and April 2016 Swordfish report

Sorry I’ve been slacking a little bit on my blog lately. The swordfish bite was non existent for me in February on the few trips I did, but in March and and so far in AprilĀ it has picked up a little bit. I am absolutely loving my new 37′ Freeman “Broad Minded“. It’s awesome running out at 30 – 35 knots (when weather allows)!!! We had 1 bite on each of 3 trips and was fortunate to catch them all the last couple weeks of March and the first week of April. The past week here in April my last two trips have yielded 2 bites each trip and we managed to get one fish on each of those trips. The fish have weighed in at 211 lbs, 200 lbs, one about 165 lbs, 115 lbs, and 95 lbs. We caught a couple mahi our last trip as well. We should start catching more and more mahi on our swordfish trips as we get into the summer months. Hopefully the bite remains consistent as we are getting into what I consider swordfish season here in Islamorada. May through November are definitely the most consistent months. I’m booked up till mid June but late summer and the Fall are prime months to try for swords! Send me an email to when you’re ready to try your luck on a swordfish charter!
