January Swordfishing 2013

Well it had been a few weeks since I had been out on the Bn’M for a daytime swordfishing charter, but we decided to give it a go today. The winds were light this morning out of the southeast, and picked up only late in the day. We had great broadbill swordfish bait, including fresh dolphin belly, bonito strips, and squid. I hadn’t heard many great reports recently but we wanted to test swordfishing in Islamorada ourselves. We had Vic Gaspeny along with us today, who had been on 145 consecutive day time swordfish trips on the Bn’M and Catch 22 with at least 1 or more bites. An unbelievable streak! Unfortunately today that streak came to an end. We fished long and hard, and tried multiple spots, but we just couldn’t buy a bite. It really makes you appreciate the days when you catch a swordfish after a long trip like today! Oh well, that’s fishing and we’ll have to them next trip.
