Islamorada Swordfishing in December

The broadbill bite has still been consistent the past week while Swordfishing in the Florida Keys out of Bud n’ Mary’s Marina in Islamorada. On December 8th I shot an episode of Bass2Billfish with Host Peter Miller on a 36′ yellowfin center counsel. We caught 2 swordfish, about 45 and 70 lbs. We also stopped on the way home and caught a few blue line tilefish and a snowy grouper for dinner. On the 9th both the Bn’M and Catch 22 went out in search of daytime swordfish and both succeeded. Sara caught a swordfish about 75 lbs on the Bn’M. Vic caught a swordfish about 50 lbs on the Catch 22 as well as a big scale pomfret, which was an unusual surprise. That was the only bite we had on the Bn’M, but the Catch 22 reported a few other bites but unfortunately pulled the hooks on the rest. A couple days later the Catch 22 fished again and Mark caught an 80 lb swordfish and then Ted released a 50 lb broadbill. The Bites have been hard earned lately and hopefully some more BIG fish will show up soon! The Winter can still be a great time for swords if the weather allows. All of our fishing is done with conventional tackle and is quite challenging when fishing in 1700′ of water!
