First broadbill swordfish of 2013 for team Bn’M

We ventured out on our second trip of the year yesterday on a daytime swordfish charter off Islamorada. We had Victor from Puerto Rico out to both learn how to catch day time swordfish as well as to try to catch his first ever swordfish. The first drop we had a bite but we couldn’t get tight. The next drop comes up empty. We reset and hook a broadbill swordfish our third drop. Victor gets in the chair and goes to work. After about 5 minutes the fish starts shaking violently and throws the hook down deep. We were upset but still determined. We send down a fresh swordfish bait and hook up again. This time the fish stays hooked and victor cranks up 2300′ of line to catch his first ever swordfish! It wasn’t a monster but you have to start somewhere. We made two more drifts but no more action. Now all he needs is a spearfish to complete his royal slam! Good luck!
