9-3-13 Starting September out with a swordfish!

We had David and his wife Drew-Anne on the Bn’M II today for some daytime swordfishing. I explained to David that the bite had been a little tough lately, and most trips had been yielding 1 – 2 bites, and there was no guarantee we’d hook the fish 1600′ down let alone catch them. He said he wanted to focus on catching a broadbill swordfish since he never had, and I said we’d give it 110 percent! Anyhow after running for 2 hours this morning we hit our first spot. We didn’t get a bite on the first drift but we weren’t discouraged. We sent down a fresh bait and drifted for 30 minutes, right before winding the bait up , WHAM! We get a good whack. We drop back and come tight for about 2 seconds before pulling the hook. The fish never came back so we checked the bait and sure enough the bait was fouled up. We crimp on a new bait and send one down again. Within 10 seconds we get a bite and we are TIGHT! David gets in the chair and after a 20 minute battle has a broadbill on the leader jumping! The fish made 2 spectacular jumps and then we pulled him in the boat for a quick picture. We fished the rest of the day but the bite was over. We were happy to get the one we did though, and hopefully the Swordfishing in September continues to get better!
