4-23-13 Pair of Broadbills for the Bn’M!

Well the past few months has been the toughest stretch of swordfishing we have seen here in Islamorada since we started day dropping. The daytime swordfish bite is usually extremely consistent here in the Florida Keys, but on 3 of my last 6 trips since Christmas I didn’t have a sniff. Fortunately my last trip though we had 2 good bites and caught both of them. We also had one other whack, where he hit the bait one time but never came back. My fish last trip were around 50 and 60 lbs. The nice thing about swordfishing this time of year and as we get into the summer is that there’s a shot at mahi on the way in, out, and even while we are drifting. On the way out the other day we hit a pack of 3 nice mahi, all from 24 – 25 lbs, including two bulls. The swordfishing picked up a lot for us last year in May, so I’m hoping this year it does the same. I’ll keep you update with the swordfish reports as we get them. The Catch 22 fished a couple trips the past couple of weeks as well and didn’t have any luck yesterday, but they did release a broadbill on their prior trip.
