2-14-13 Islamorada Swordfish Report… or lack of

The question remains when will the swordfishing in Islamorada pick up to what we’re used to seeing? Yesterday the Catch 22 fished and managed a couple bites, hooking one and fighting the fish for about 15 minutes. Just when the felt confident they were going to catch the broadbill, he started thrashing around about 500′ from the boat and the line went slack. Today while on a daytime swordfish charter on the Bn’M we made 4 drops by 12:15, but unfortunately never even had a bite! That’s two trips this year for me with out a bite, and considering we went somewhere in the neighbor hood of 100 consecutive trips with at least one bite, some has got to change! We tried everything we had today, including some of my favorite swordfish baits. These including squid, bonito strips, and ladyfish. We had the voo doo stick going as well as the new “squid” hat, but nothing could buy a bite. The good news is we aren’t going to give up and there should be a push of fish down here soon, but we’ll just have to wait them out.
