12-15-13 Catch 22 goes 3 for 3 on swords!

Today was the right day to go daytime swordfishing off Islamorada. It was a pre frontal condition and the winds were moderate all day long. On the way out Capt. Scott on the Catch 22 stopped by one of the humps to try for some blackfin tuna. They hooked a handful of tuna but the sharks were very aggressive and ate all of the hooked fish.  From there they ran another hour to the swordfish ledge. The made a total of 4 drifts, and had bites on 3 of them. It’s not every day you catch 100% of your bites, but today was one of those days. They caught 3 broadbill from 40 – 60 lbs. All the fish were caught on 80 lb tuf-line on a custom Key Largo Rod. It looks windy the next few days, but hopefully it calms back down soon and we can get out there again. There can be some decent swordfishing here in the winter, but the weather has to cooperate! If you need any swordfish tackle don’t forget to check out the tackle page!

Tight Lines,

Capt. Nick Stanczyk
