10-18-12 Big Islamorada Daytime Swordfish for Mike

I’ve been out of town for a few days visiting some family, but that gave Capt. Richard Stanczyk a chance to get back out for some Day time Swordfishing aboard the Bn’M. He had Hunter, Vic, and Mike on the boat ready for action. They had to wait at the dock over an hour before leaving because of some thunder storms, but the weather cleared and they headed offshore. The first drop angler Vic Gaspeny hooked a broadbill and got in the chair. After about 15 minutes he caught and released about a 50 lb swordfish. The next drop was short and didn’t yield a bite. They reset in a new spot and sure enough hooked up immediately. Mike, who is a mate on the Redfish charter boat at the marina, got in the chair and didn’t know what he was in for. Some of these fish just have heart and won’t give up! It took nearly 3 hours of up and down fighting, but eventually Hunter was able to sink the gaffs into a nice 280 lb broadbill swordfish. The Fall swordfishing should continue to be good as long as the weather allows us to get out.
